How to stop feeling thick, hot and sweaty...

QYB1PCKVA5 (1) Another season is coming to a close:  kids going back to school (wait, yes that was just a collective exhale from all moms), summer cookouts and beach parties coming to an end, fall plans being made…all the things that inspire transition.

I don’t know about you, but there is something about the end of summer that leaves me feeling…

thick, hot and sweaty.

It’s time to lighten up and reorganize the bits of life that spun out of control while the burgers were grilling and Corona’s were popping.  Of course, we should enjoy all the things that summer and vacations bring — no schedule, family, friends, freedom — but it is no secret nothing good comes out of playing that lifestyle on repeat.

A few of the things that will inevitably creep in are adrenal fatigue, thyroid flareups, digestive issues, exhaustion, weight gain, addictions, headaches, bloating, skin issues, allergies…the list goes on.

That’s why this is my favorite time of year to do a cleanse!

The fruits and veggies are at peak season so it’s REALLY easy and fun to play with incredible food combinations.

And many of the foods are very cooling to the body, further making the cleanse process more enjoyable:  think all of the sweet and juicy melons, tomatoes, peaches, herbs, etc.  These foods are naturally fresh in the summer for the purpose of cooling, hydrating and giving us extra NATURAL sugars/carbs to keep us going during the longer, hot days.  Mother Nature is kinda smart that way.  I'm not going to argue.

Really, at this point, I don’t even like to call this process a “cleanse” or “detox” anymore…those words are being so overused and abused.  (Our society loves to grab on to something and just beat the daylights out of it…ugh.)

It's more like resetting or cleaning up my thoughts and actions around food.

So Scott and I are in the middle of a combination juice/food cleanse this week.

What does that mean?

I am combining a 3 day juice cleanse with my 7-Day ReSet cleanse (enter your email address to the right to receive your free ReSet!) to get the benefits of juicing and a clean eating lifestyle.  This type of cleanse can be extended much longer than just juicing alone and the juicing piece allows for a deeper cleanse than just food alone.

And, gasp, I am NOT doing my own juicing because of the incredible juice I am buying from Blue Barn Juice in Mt. Pleasant.  (This is for local Charleston folks only.  Although there are many places to buy juice cleanses online or locally in your market, if you are from “off.”)  And let me tell you...

these ladies know what they are doing!  The juice is delicious, the packaging is beautiful and the service is impeccable.  You really can't ask for more.

The benefits of doing this sort of program are plentiful:

  • improvement in skin & skin conditions
  • improved immunity & digestion
  • helpful with women’s issues & chronic illness
  • increases energy & decreases allergy symptoms
  • supplies vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients & antioxidants which we don’t get enough of
  • improved sleep cycles (because of no caffeine/alcohol and less/easier digestive process)

So now you're wondering what this looks like in real time?

This is what my day looks like:

  • warm lemon water when I wake up - 1 cup with juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 3 juices in the morning about 2 hours apart
  • a smoothie or salad/vegan meal for late lunch
  • a smoothie or salad/vegan meal for dinner
  • If needed, snack in late afternoon fresh fruits or vegetables, or plant-based protein shake.

The rules:

  • No alcohol
  • No caffeine/coffee  (green, chai tea is OK)
  • No gluten
  • No animal products
  • This includes NO dairy
  • No sugar

Simple!  And so completely effective that at the end of a week you’ll feel lighter, brighter, recharged, and ready to reorganize and redesign your life.
